It was the battle of the Titans that brought the gods down the realms of man with their immortal hands rubbing in rich anticipation.
On the red corner, we had the unbeaten champion, the knee throwing elbow wielding and all conquering Jon Jones looking to add the heavyweight tossing, easy winning and people's champion Daniel 'DC' Comier to his kill list.
For half year, both men have exchange everything short of a kiss and a making up session. Shoes were thrown after some punches failed to land, words said that could turn the worst insults into compliments and bad blood was allowed to fester and grow to the extent where the outcome mattered little as somebodies tears were a guaranteed to flow by the end of the night and it was not going to be a fan.
The first round was nothing short of thrilling. Sure the punches were teddy bear soft but that mattered not. Both men threw caution to the wind and traded blows. Jones stretched arms were stretched as far as they could reach to maximise his 19 inch reach advantage yet DC managed to walk past that and swing for the fences.
And this was DC's downfall, high volume low accuracy punching against a gifted fighter like Jones equates to Jones counter punching winning him the round 10-9.
The second round had more bass to it. DC uppercuts came with more power and landed on higher frequency. Uppercuts, hooks and straights all jacked the champions head backwards when they landed. The round would have been a perfect blueprint to beating Jones if DC's takedown attempts translated to takedowns.
Whether it was instinct or just the waiting game, Jones waited til the closing 10 seconds to bring back memories of Anderson Silva's dominance. In a play by play move, Jones sprung off the canvas, wrapped his long thin legs around the neck of DC and was less than an addicts racing heartbeat away from locking in an armbar. Had DC been a weaker man, he would have been caught but the challenger slammed the champ on the canvas and earned him a takedown and the round 10-9.
The second, third and forth rounds should have been a tribute to Jon Jones as a fighter as they reminded the world why most use the term GOAT- Greatest Of All Time as a verb to describe him as a fighter. With the ease of a hot knife slicing through butter, Jones managed to push DC to the cage where he bullied him and buttered him for the next 15 minutes earning him three consecutive 10-9 rounds.
Knees, elbows and head kicks slammed the fight out of DC, he seemed more interested in clock watching than he was in fighting back. Grimising through every punch, the MMA fan had an exquisite dish of how to make a world class contenders like DC look ordinary
But Jones was not done with his victim, not the buzzer or the judges decision stopped his charge. Jones used his used his 5 minutes on the mic to add salt to DC's wound. "I hope he is crying somewhere right now, which I think is" was the sentence that embodied the kindness in his post match comments.
Gloat, that is one word to describe it yet with Jones handing DC his first L in the UFC, we are left with GOAT, the undisputed Greatest Of All Time and amount classless chatter would take that away from the champ.
